Environment
Requirements
- Platform: iPhone / iPod touch. iPad behavior depends on device and OS support.
- OS: Current App Store builds target iOS 17 and later.
- Network: Required for list refreshes, online article viewing, source-site content, purchases, ads, and saved-search checks. Offline reading only works for saved snapshots.
- Source sites: Wikidot and other source-site layout changes or maintenance may cause temporary display issues or slower loading.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an account or login?
- No. SCP Docs is designed for browsing without a Wikidot account. Editing articles or posting comments follows each official source site's rules.
- Which branches and languages are supported?
- The app currently supports the English main archive and the Japanese, French, Russian, Korean, Spanish, and Polish branches. The app UI currently supports English, Japanese, French, Russian, Korean, Spanish, and Polish.
- How should I use the archive and Library?
- Start from Home, choose a branch, then browse directory routes such as SCP reports, Tales, Canons, GoI, Joke SCPs, SCP-EX, collections, recent articles, and guides. Use Search when you know a number, title, tag, or Object Class. When you find something useful, bookmark it, mark it read-later, rate it, add a memo, or place it in a folder so it stays available from Library and continue-reading.
- Lists or titles look old / cannot be fetched
- Catalog data is downloaded online and cached on your device. Check your connection, then refresh catalogs from Settings or restart the app. Some source-site changes can require a later catalog update.
- What is free, and what is Premium?
- Number and title search, reading, basic library features, history, ratings, bookmarks, and read-later are available for normal use. Premium adds ad removal, advanced search, memo editing, higher save limits, offline storage, reading stats, text-to-speech, saved-search alerts, and bookmark folders with iCloud sync.
- I want to read offline
- Offline saving is a Premium feature. While Premium is active, eligible saved articles can keep a local HTML snapshot. If you are offline, only articles with saved copies can be displayed; images, external resources, unsaved articles, and catalog updates still require a network connection.
- I want to remove ads / I see a banner
- Ads are shown during free use, including banner, inline, native feed, interstitial, rewarded, and similar formats. While monthly Premium is active, ads are hidden. If you are not subscribed, a rewarded ad may grant temporary Premium access when available.
- How do saved searches and notifications work?
- Saved searches are Premium. The app checks catalog data on device after sync and can notify you when new matching entries appear. iOS notification permission is required, and notifications are not generated by an operator-run server.
- Where is my data sent?
- Reading history, progress, ratings, bookmarks, read-later, memos, reading time, folders, saved searches, offline snapshots, and rewarded-ad expiry are primarily stored on your device. If iCloud Drive is available, reading state, memos, saved searches, and bookmark folders may sync through your own iCloud storage. See the Privacy Policy for details.
